Camping

Tent camping is fun, but after a couple of lumpy nights on an air mattress, we decided we'd really like a camper.

In Summer '07 we found this 1973 Apache Mesa on Craig's List. We'd never heard of Apache campers before, but it turns out they have quite a loyal following. Our Apache is a hard-sided pop-up camper. The company that built these really built them to last... Despite its age, it's in great condition and totally functional.  It has a sink and stovetop, fridge, two bunks, a couple of bench seats, electric lighting, screens and sliding plexiglass windows, and lots of storage.  And since it has hard sides rather than canvas, there's no mildew and we stay nice and dry in the rain!

New to camping? We've only been camping for a couple of years, and when we started, I found it helpful to look at other campers' gear lists to get ideas about what we should pack. And then, of course, there were some items that we learned about the hard way - by forgetting them!  Here are our current gear lists in Excel format:
